Web awards, why do they cost so much?

On a medium for freedom of speech, why should you pay for your wbesites recognition...

Web design awards, are they fair and do they represent the majority?

Unless you have endlesss pockets filled with so much money you can simply throw it away, then what is the point of entering the numerous web awards found on the internet.

Yes you may get some recognition for your efforts, but what if you cannot afford to fork out the $250 dollars needed just to get a look in and your site happens to be far more ingenious and market leading.

Well the answer is at the moment, probably a whole lot of nothing. Until a universal group, say for example ICANN decide to provide a free global awards for various website skills, e.g. design, flash, marketing, sport then the normal human designer not backed by millions in agency funds will be left behind.

If there is an award out there that is like this then so far to me it is not a main stream award as it is simply not being noticed. So my challenge is to either set up a web award site for the masses, not one such as Webby, or the Pixel Awards, FWA where you pay. It should be free, just like the Internet, a place to express youself and not find boundaries.

Keep checking back soon where I will be posting Ideas on the name of these awards and how I think it is going to work. If you would like to sponsor an award, then we also welcome your thoughts and ideas.

In the meantime, if you have any ideas, or would like to help, please comment below.

Lets see if we can make it mainstream...
