Wakefield College Student Interview
Michael Robinson from Wakefield College needed an interview with a web professional as part of his course.
Yesterday evening at 6:30pm I had a new experience. I was interviewed by a local student from Wakefield College called Michael Robinson. Michael a 23yr old student from Knottingley, near Pontefract is studying to become a website designer at Wakefield College. His course a degree in website design and I presume all its surrounding principles lead him in my direction.
For part of Michael's course he had to find someone in the web design industry and ask them a series of questions about both website design itself but also how it fairs as a business in todays current economic climate.
Unfortunately I am a little more off piste than many of the bigger web development companies in the area and as such Michael struggled to find someone willing to give him a few minutes to help him on his way. Having studied myself at the University of Huddersfield I could relate to Michael in being a little dismayed by how many other people simple said they did not have enough spare time. Come on 15 minutes is nothing even in todays fast moving society.
So over a glass of a refreshing beverage we got down the interview.
Michael had forwarded me his questions earlier in the day which gave me a little time to prepare some answers and try to come across a little more professional. (I hope I achieved this :o) ). The questioned varied from, What experience/background do you have as a designer? to What are your feelings towards W3C standards and do you adhere to them? Are there any jobs that you're not willing to take on? , I did all I could and answered honestly.
As this was something out of the norm, in my everyday life I was indeed very happy to have helped a student move in the right direction.
I would like to wish Michael all the best with his future studies and eventual career in the web design and development industry. It is a great place to be and always on the move.
Note - I hope it did not take too long to transcribe the interview, as it was quite long and I did go on a bit :o)
